Bagels & Fraylox Klezmer Band will enter a new era June 2 with the introduction of singer Jonathan Rathsam.
In a free concert at 3 p.m. at Temple Beth El in Williamsburg, Bagels will perform for the first time with Rathsam, a cantorial soloist who can summon tears of joy in audiences whether singing in English or Yiddish.
Rathsam, an acoustical engineer at NASA’s Langley Research Center, sings with the Virginia Chorale and serves part-time as cantorial soloist at Congregation Emet V’Or in Newport News. He also brings the average age of the band down to 50.
Bagels & Fraylox, formed by Temple Beth El members nearly 20 years ago, has a long history of bringing joy with its version of rollicking Jewish party music. The five-piece band features wailing clarinets, accordion, saxophone and upright bass. Temple Beth El is at 600 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA.
We look forward to this performance and hope you will be able to join us. For more info call 757 220-1205 or visit the website at https://tbewilliamsburg.org/calendar/
