Remembering the victims of the Holocaust is our most sacred obligation as a community.  In the words of Simon Weisenthal, “survival is a privilege which entails obligations. I am forever asking myself what I can do for those who have not survived.”

We must never forget. For this reason, the Holocaust Writing and Visual Arts Competition was designed to educate local middle and high school students about the horrors of the Holocaust. Teaching tolerance to students enables them to confront antisemitism, cruelty, bigotry and other current injustices.

The Holocaust Writing & Visual Art Competition is funded through the generosity of
the Sarfan / William M. & Gary S. Nachman Philanthropic Fund.

Through the competition, my students share with others as a reminder and understanding of the past, but also to raise awareness about the prejudices and hatred that continue to exist today. Education is activism.
